Job Qualifications (primary):

- Understanding of how to optimize for low page weight and performance

EA Sports Online is responsible for http://easports.com and http://easportsfootball.co.uk which bring the emotion of sports and sports gaming to the web. We are both the primary destination for the SPORTS label and a growing social community for sports gamers. Position Overview
With a strong software engineering background and proven web development experience, Front End Engineer is expected to work on the http://easports.com and http://easportsfootball.co.uk front end and presentation tiers.
Key Responsibilities
- Reporting to the Development Director of the Sports Online Web team, develop web components and presentation components for http://easports.com and http://easportsfootball.co.uk sites on schedule.
- Apply your knowledge of Web technologies including Javascript, PHP, CSS, HTML, Flash/Flex, graphics, and video to create dynamic and highly interactive Web experience for millions of users worldwide.
- Work in a tight production loop with producers to implement requested product features in specified releases.
- Work closely with the Platform team who provide restful web services for interacting with data features from game consoles.
Required Technical Skills and Experience
- B.Sc. in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent training and professional experience.
- A minimum of 5 years industry technical experience working on consumer facing Web sites. Please provide URLs to sites you have worked on and your role on these sites.
- Strong knowledge of front end Web technologies including HTML, CSS, Javascript, Flash, Flex, graphics, and video.
- Real experience with a modern Javascript library like YUI, jQuery or Dojo is required.
- 2+ years experience with object orientated Javascript and PHP. Knowledge of Java and C/C++ desired; knowledge/experience with Ruby, Python, Erlang, and Scala highly beneficial.
- 2+ years experience working with at least 2 modern Web frameworks like RoR, Django, Symfony, Struts etc.
- 2+ years experience working with databases and good knowledge of SQL. Oracle, MySQL and PostgreSQL experience preferred.
- Knowledge of HTTP and REST are expected.
- Real experience with consuming XML in Javascript is highly desirable
- Real experience with single page web applications – Javascript applications consuming RESTful resources – is highly desirable.
- Real experience with Test Driven Development is required; please explain where you have used TDD before on projects.
- Basic knowledge of security and cryptography, single sign-on and LDAP directory services.
- Knowledge of source code management: CVS, Subversion, Git and/or Perforce.
- Both Windows and Linux experience are required.
